The First Annual South Florida Reunion took place last week at RARE Steakhouse in Miami Beach. Thank you to event chairs Ben Tabaria and Mordy Landesman for organizing the get together, which was both fun and tasteful (both meanings apply, but we’re really talking about the food). Jordan Lahav, Yoshua Attia, Yakov Hill, Jeff Malley, Gavi Berman, Johnny Chames and Josh Fox, in addition to Ben, Mordy and LCM Director of Alumni Affairs Aryeh Young, met up at RARE to reconnect, catch up and fill up. We’ll X off the days until next year’s reunion and stay in touch in the meantime!

Few students have the cosmopolitan background of LCM’s Yaacov Bergman. Yaacov was born in Israel and spent three years in Cape Town when his father became a rabbi of a South African shul. “It was amazing,” he recalled. “I could see the ocean from my window.”

Pushing an empty cart, Moshe Bedziner walks expertly to a doorway, his footsteps squeaking on the rubber floors of SUNY Downstate’s Basic Science building. He punches in a code, takes a blue face mask and gloves, and twists the doorknob. Inside are hundreds of rats in cylindrical cages, each labeled with a different Principal Investigator’s name. Moshe finds his rats and carefully lifts the cages into his cart.

When Tzvi Cohen’s rebbeim in Yeshiva Sha’arei Mevaseret Zion recommended he attend Lander College for Men, Cohen began doing research. “I do a lot of research before I make any decisions,” said Cohen, who is from West Hempstead, NY.

On Monday afternoon, under the skilled care of Michael Davidson’s spatula and tongs, Lander students enjoyed a welcome back barbecue before heading off to class. A lot of meat was consumed, frisbees and baseballs flew as a few games got under way, and the new post-pesach guys mingled and met the returning students as everyone got into the rhythm of the Lander campus.
