Camp Zev is Back in Town

February 11, 2015

For the third year in a row, some LCM students chose to stay on campus for winter break.

Camp Zev, as it’s affectionately called (on behalf of its founder, Zev Kilstein) has been running every intersession break for the past several years to afford students the opportunity and provisions to comfortably stay in the dormitories throughout the vacation. While the program exists primarily to provide students with the necessities to keep learning even without the set structure of the academic year, Kilstein organizes fun, exciting trips to help keep the students motivated and, in essence, provide comic relief. The bein ha’zmanim program aims to have an appropriate ratio between learning Torah and taking time off to become revitalized for the next zman.

February 10, 2015

Though the icicles on the trees lining Main Street (not to mention the shoveled-off ice lining its sidewalks) make it hard for us to remember that spring is on its way, what better way to celebrate a frozen Tu b’Shvat than with some delicious frozen yogurt and fruit?

LCM Celebrates Chanukah on Campus

January 05, 2015

Chanukah is a bright spot on the LCM Calendar. And not just because of all the candles lit together on the fourth floor. There were gifts! And mesibas! And divrei torah! And mesibas! And food! And did we mention mesibas?  It started on the first day of Chanukah, when students received their annual Chanukah gift from Lander’s Student Government—LCM-emblazoned winter beanies!

LCM’s In-Shabbos Extravaganza

December 29, 2014

As if the past week’s Chanukah celebrations weren’t enough, LCM partied it up some more (and ate more, too!) at the past in-Shabbos hosted by Rabbi Shmulewitz. As per tradition, the in-Shabbos featured LCM’s favorite annual competitions, the cholent cook-off and dessert bake-off. Friday night’s winners for Best Cholent(s) was a tie between Beis Medrash L’Talmud kollel members Dov Moskowitz and Clarence Wilcox, the latter of whom won last year, too!

Moshe Ornstein, MA, MD: A Healing Factor

December 08, 2014

When his older brother was diagnosed with leukemia, LCM ’05 alum Moshe Ornstein knew he wanted to go into medicine. “Being in the hospital, seeing the physicians, seeing the impact the healthcare team had on my brother’s life… [I was] looking at those role models…saying, ‘I’d like to be like them.’
