Touro College celebrated its 41st annual Commencement exercises at Avery Fisher Hall in Lincoln Center.

New York, NY—Touro College celebrated its 41st annual Commencement exercises at Avery Fisher Hall in Lincoln Center on Sunday, May 31, awarding a total of 647 baccalaureate and associate degrees to graduates from Lander College for Men in Kew Gardens Hills (LCM); Lander College for Women-The Anna Ruth and Mark Hasten School in Manhattan (LCW); Lander College of Arts & Sciences-Flatbush (LAS Men’s and Women’s divisions); the School for Lifelong Education in Brooklyn; and Machon L’Parnasa-Institute for Professional Studies.

Simcha Himmel Named Valedictorian of Lander College for Men

New York, N.Y. – As far back as high school Simcha Himmel knew he wanted to pursue a career in marketing. He was fascinated by the approach companies utilized to gain brand recognition.

“I’ve always found the strategic side of business and marketing interesting,” he said. “Companies like Apple and Starbucks created brands that have become powerful icons, and everyone is walking around wearing five or six logos.”

Eleven High Schools Compete in Yeshiva Science Olympiad at Lander College for Men

New York, N.Y. –Students from 11 Jewish high schools around the tristate area participated in the annual Jewish Education Project-Lander College Yeshiva Science Olympiad. The team from Salanter Akiba Riverdale Academy (SAR) won first place in the competition, with North Shore Hebrew Academy, Torah Academy of Bergen County (TABC) and Stella K. Abraham High School for Girls (SKA) in Long Beach rounding out the top four spots. Several students who excelled in individual competitions were honored, as well.

Lander College for Men Holds First-of-its-Kind Model Beis Din Competition

New York, N.Y.The Beis Medrash L’Talmud-Lander College for Men (LCM) held its inaugural Model Beis Din competition for high school students in the tri-state area. The cutting edge tournament invited teams to the Kew Gardens Hills campus to match wits with regard to the Jewish legal ramifications of a complex halachic quandary. The teams representing the Torah Academy of Bergen County (TABC) in Teaneck, New Jersey and Rambam Mesivta in Lawrence came in first and second place, respectively. Students from the Mesivta Ateres Yaakov, also in Lawrence, and the Jewish Educational Center (JEC) from Elizabeth, New Jersey also participated.

Dr. Michael Oren, Former Ambassador of Israel to the United States, to Receive Honorary Degree at the 40th Annual Commencement Exercises of Touro College

New York, N.Y. – Touro College President and CEO Dr. Alan Kadish announced today that Michael Oren, Ph.D., Israel’s ambassador to the United States from 2009 to 2013, will receive an honorary degree at the 40th annual commencement exercises at Avery Fisher Hall in Lincoln Center on May 26th, 2014.
